The 19th Project kick started on the 19th of August 2007 in Scouting's centenary year. Participants arrived from across the country, 50% of which being new faces. Leaders visted the 4 sites that we would be working on over the next week.

On Monday, work began on the four conservation sites despite the decidedly damp weather. Blue Team visited Walthamstow Pond, Red Team went to Swaines Green, Green Team climbed Warren Hill and Yellow Team enjoyed the fun of Furse Ground.

On Tuesday the teams swapped sites and carried on with the work, and by the end of the day all four sites had changed quite substantially - even if the weather didn't. In the evening we were entertained by three junior Bamber Gascoignes (or Jeremy Paxmans for our younger readers) with our very own University Challenge. Their starter for tens even challenged the leaders!

On Wednesday we took a break from our conservation projects by letting our hair down (although some may say it was more of a hair raising experience) at Thorpe Park.

On Thursday, after our day of rest, the work continued, the sites improved and the weather if anything got slightly worse. During the day some of the participants got slightly giddy: one fell to his knee at Warren Hill and another went for a swim at Walthamstow Pond. See if you can spot them!

Friday saw our work completed at the four sites. Local dignitaries were invited to visit, to see what we had been getting up to in their forest. Their was a sigh of relief at Swaines Green when the boardwalk managed to survive a group photo on top of it - a true testiment to our handywork!

At the end of the week, we all enjoyed a traditional campfire. Each team performed a stunt - and because we had got to know each other so well during the week, it didn't matter if we made a fool out of ourselves in front of others.
